Microsoft’s E3 Epiphany

As you may or may not be aware, the massive gaming expo E3 is taking place this week, and its all about new products and Microsoft’s  new way of combating the growing success of the Wii and the PS3 (No way strike the PS3 bit)

.

To do this they have done a few things to “be seen more like Disney and less like Tarantino”.

Firstly, they have reduced the price of the original “Premium” Xbox 360 package to around £150, about the same price as the Wii, but slightly lower, they are also intorducing a new 60GB version to combat the PS3. These changes are expected to take place next year.

Random Rant about 360 below:

Oddly, although i hate Microsoft as much as if it were a real person, i do agree that they got the Xbox project right on, yes sure the Wii is fine, healthy and “fun”, but take away the “friends coming over” element and your just a lonely little boy, who to someone looking into your house from outside looks as if they are giving themselves a good time, another thing is that underneath, nearly all Wii games utilize the same engine and A LOT(Not all!) games are very similar, how long before people start to notice this and get bored.

Anyway, my rant about the 360, I brought mine brand new because, i couldn’t get a wii because i didn’t want to pre-order, so i was left with little choice rather than to buy a “core” package, for £200 2 years ago, this came with nothing in the box but a wired controller and a basic console, then like nearly all games consoles, 1 year later Microsoft release an “Arcade” package with a lot more stuff than my core package for £40 less, is that fair, and now comparing the two, i have an original 360 meaning it has the disc tray louder than a boeing 747, is it really, fair that someone who persevered with them for so long is now thrown aside, and charged a lot more to buy the accessories that other people got paid £40 to do?. I’m not shouting at Microsoft in particular here, as everyone does, it DS lite, PSP slim, PS2 slim, and finally i guess the main point im trying to make is that, these “improved” versions seem to come out not really that much later than the originals, and i have a feeling that they could have made the originals better but instead they decide to charge you for two consoles, to make more money, even if it pisses you off.
